The Legend of Stagecoach Mary, a new musical by Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore, is an irreverent yet emotional tall tale about the power of diversity, the strength of love and the kick of saloon whiskey, combining roof-raising dances, an onstage bluegrass band, sweet melodies and slapstick comedy. Did we mention it's based on a too-good-to-be-fiction story? When ex-slave Mary Fields heads to 1880s Montana to find freedom, adventure and her long-lost best friend, she discovers a gaggle of square-dancing nuns and a town full of cowboys in need of a little lesson in the American Dream.
Current Projects
A new musical with music by Curtis Moore, lyrics by Thomas Mizer, Triangle is an intimate epic, journeying through questions of faith, responsibility and desire.
Triangle was commissioned by the Williamstown Theatre Festival and developed at the Eugene O'Neill Music Theatre Conference.
Against the backdrop of an historic New York tragedy, two couples from different eras, a Jewish seamstress, her Italian foreman, a modern historian and his free-spirited boyfriend, grapple with what it means to risk everything you have and everything you believe for love.
Triangle had its premiere as part of the 2005 Williamstown Theatre Festival season.
Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, creators of the one-man hip hop musical Clay, join forces with Curtis Moore to tell an epic tale of love, betrayal, and the quest for peace in a new musical that incorporates elements of hip hop, R & B, and opera. Set in the near future, Venice tells the story of two brothers who struggle to make sense of their war-torn city. Both haunted by the memory of their mother, one calls for peace, while the other sets out to see his brother's plans undone.
Venice is being presented in 2010 as a joint production between The Kansas City Rep Theatre, and the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles.
Based on a short story by Argentinian poet Fernando Sanchez-Sorondo, The Bus to Buenos Aires is filled with laughter, heart-ache and family, all in a fifteen minute musical with music by Curtis Moore, book and lyrics by Thomas Mizer. After five years of self-imposed exile, Paulo returns home for the funeral of one of his three sisters, but unfortunately he doesn’t know which one has died. In the surreal limbo of his long journey through the night, he is visited by visions of his sisters and must play a cruel game to determine their fates.
For the Love of Tiffany, a new musical with music by Curtis Moore, lyrics by Amanda Green, and a book by Matthew Brookshire and Thomas Mizer, draws its inspiration from the trash, tragedy and triumph found in the made-for-TV movies of women's television. The protagonist, Stephanie, is obsessed with the trials and tribulations of the heroines from Wifetime movies, at the expense of having any real adventures of her own. That all changes the day she meets both the man of her dreams and her favorite Wifetime Movie star, the titular Tiffany Jenkins.
Tiffany had a successful, sold-out run at the 2003 New York International Fringe Festival. The production starred Tony nominee Nancy Opel (Urinetown), and was directed by Matthew Brookshire, with music direction by Tom Kitt.
